Description:
A warm welcome to all the medical practitioners in this interesting session on ideal, possible and futuristic options of syndromic testing and antimicrobial stewardship practices.
The speaker Dr. P. Senthur Nambi has provided elaborative knowledge on the ideal, possible and futuristic prospects of syndromic diagnostic testing and antimicrobial stewardship.
Syndromic diagnostic testing is a novel approach of rapid diagnosis of common infectious diseases which include bloodstream, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and CNS infections. As the threat of antimicrobial resistance continues to rise globally, it is extremely important to focus on the judicious use of antimicrobials.
The ideal patient for a syndromic test may be patients who are immunocompromised, critically ill, or a pediatric patient, or the ones for whom immediate pathogen identification is essential. Therefore, antimicrobial stewardship helps in appropriate use of antimicrobials for setting guidance in patient management in order to optimize clinical outcomes and minimize complications.
