Obesity and Diabetes: The Hidden Connection

Speciality: Bariatrics

Speaker:

Dr. DEEPAK GARNAIK | Consultant Bariatric Surgeon

Description:

Welcome to our podcast. Today, we’re shedding light on the hidden connection between obesity and diabetes. Obesity isn’t just about body weight—it’s a complex health issue with significant impacts on the body’s ability to manage blood sugar. Excess body fat, especially around the abdomen, makes it harder for insulin to work properly, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes. In fact, studies show that people who are overweight are up to 80 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those with a healthy weight. The good news is, even modest weight loss—just five to ten percent—can dramatically reduce your risk. Understanding this connection is key to prevention and better health. Thanks for listening.
