Fatigue is typically characterized by a persistent sense of tiredness or exhaustion, impairing an individual's ability to function at their normal capacity. It may be categorized as acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term), with the latter often hinting at underlying medical conditions.
A myriad of conditions may precipitate fatigue, ranging from chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, to psychological disorders like depression and anxiety. Deciphering the enigma of fatigue requires a comprehensive clinical approach. By understanding the multifaceted nature of fatigue and employing a systematic diagnostic approach, healthcare professionals can better manage this ubiquitous symptom, enhancing patient care and outcomes.
