Understanding global healthcare systems is crucial for medical professionals to provide quality care.
Primarily, there are three models: Beveridge, Bismarck, and out-of-pocket. The Beveridge model, used in the UK, provides healthcare funded by taxation. The Bismarck model, prevalent in Germany, is financed through insurance schemes. The out-of-pocket model is common in underdeveloped countries where individuals pay for services.
Each model has pros and cons. The Beveridge model ensures universal coverage, while the Bismarck model promotes competition. The out-of-pocket model, however, leaves many without care.
Medical professionals should familiarize themselves with these models to optimize patient care.
