Initial management involves the reduction of blood pressure by 25% within the first hour, followed by a gradual reduction over the next 24 to 48 hours. Rapid reduction beyond this can lead to organ ischemia. Intravenous antihypertensive medications, such as labetalol, nicardipine, or sodium nitroprusside, are typically employed.
Healthcare professionals play a pivotal role in managing hypertensive emergencies. Early recognition, accurate diagnosis, and prompt treatment are crucial. Furthermore, patient education about medication adherence and lifestyle modifications can prevent the recurrence of these emergencies.
