NRT, available in various forms such as patches, gum, nasal spray, inhalers, and lozenges, can help manage withdrawal symptoms. Bupropion, an antidepressant, and varenicline, a partial agonist of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, have both shown efficacy in increasing long-term smoking abstinence rates.
Behavioral interventions, often used in combination with pharmacotherapy, can enhance smoking cessation success. These interventions can range from brief advice and self-help materials to more intensive individual or group counselling. Motivational interviewing, a patient-centered counselling approach, has been particularly effective in enhancing motivation and commitment to quit.

These platforms can provide personalized feedback, monitor progress, and offer support at critical times, such as during cravings or withdrawal symptoms. They also offer the advantage of accessibility and convenience.
Combination therapy, involving the use of multiple pharmacotherapies or a blend of pharmacotherapy and behavioral interventions, can enhance cessation rates. This approach allows for a more individualized treatment plan, addressing both the physical addiction and the behavioral aspects of smoking.
In conclusion, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to smoking cessation. It requires a tailored, multifaceted strategy that combines pharmacotherapy, behavioral, and digital interventions. As healthcare professionals, we should stay updated on the latest evidence-based strategies to effectively support our patients in their journey towards smoking cessation.
