This review synthesizes current knowledge on the epidemiology, mechanisms, risk factors, clinical features, and management strategies of early-life interventions, highlighting recent advances and guideline-based recommendations. Emphasis is placed on translating mechanistic insights into practical, evidence-based approaches that clinicians can apply to optimize long-term outcomes for individuals and populations.

Introduction

The concept that early developmental stages influence lifelong health has gained substantial traction, underpinning the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) hypothesis. Early-life interventions including nutritional, environmental, behavioral, and medical strategies hold promise for altering disease trajectories, reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases, and improving population health. Understanding the mechanistic underpinnings and clinical implications of these interventions is essential for optimizing preventive care.

Epidemiology / Disease Burden

Globally, the burden of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and neurodevelopmental disorders is escalating, with evidence implicating early-life exposures as key contributors.
