Furthermore, the development of third-generation AEDs, characterized by their specific mechanisms of action, offers personalized treatment options for patients with different epilepsy types.
Neuromodulation techniques, such as Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS), Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), and Responsive Neurostimulation (RNS), have shown significant potential in managing drug-resistant epilepsy. These interventions modulate neuronal activity, reducing seizure frequency and severity, and improving patients' quality of life.
The advent of genetic testing has revolutionized epilepsy management. Identifying specific genetic mutations associated with certain epilepsy syndromes allows for targeted treatment strategies, improving therapeutic outcomes.
