Other conditions include seizures, meningitis, encephalitis, and traumatic brain injuries. Each of these conditions necessitates a different approach in terms of diagnosis and management.
Neuroimaging plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis of neurological emergencies. Non-contrast computed tomography (CT) is the first-line imaging modality in acute stroke and head trauma. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides superior resolution in cases of demyelinating diseases, CNS infections, and spinal cord emergencies. Similarly, early recognition and treatment of status epilepticus, meningitis, and encephalitis can significantly alter patient outcomes. Management of neurological emergencies often requires an interdisciplinary approach, involving neurologists, neurosurgeons, intensivists, radiologists, and emergency physicians. Effective communication and collaboration among these specialists can greatly enhance patient care.
