Lifestyle modifications, such as increasing dietary fiber intake, fluid consumption, and physical activity, play a key role in managing constipation. These interventions can improve bowel regularity and alleviate symptoms. Patient education about these measures is vital and should be an integral part of the management plan.
When lifestyle modifications are insufficient, pharmacological interventions may be necessary. These include bulk-forming agents, stool softeners, stimulant laxatives, and osmotic laxatives.
