Electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation is an essential skill in medical practice. It is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that provides valuable information about the heart's electrical activity. The first step in ECG interpretation is understanding the basic waveform components. The P wave represents atrial depolarization, the QRS complex signifies ventricular depolarization, and the T wave indicates ventricular repolarization. Understanding the basics, identifying rhythm abnormalities, recognizing signs of ischemia or infarction, and assessing for conduction abnormalities are key components of this skill. With practice and continual learning, the language of the heart can be effectively deciphered, leading to improved patient care.
