Portal hypertension, a common complication of cirrhosis, can lead to variceal bleeding, ascites, and hepatic encephalopathy. Management strategies include non-selective beta-blockers to reduce portal pressure, endoscopic band ligation for varices, and diuretics and paracentesis for ascites.
This neuropsychiatric disorder can range from subtle cognitive changes to coma. Management involves treating precipitating factors, reducing ammonia production with lactulose or rifaximin, and ensuring adequate nutrition.
