Portal hypertension can result in variceal bleeding, and hepatocellular carcinoma is a significant risk for patients with cirrhosis.
Management strategies should be individualized, considering the patient's overall health status and the specific complications present. Diuretics are commonly used to manage ascites, while hepatic encephalopathy often requires lactulose and rifaximin. Beta-blockers can help control portal hypertension, and regular surveillance is crucial for early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma.
