Management of dyslipidemia involves lifestyle modifications and pharmacological interventions. Lifestyle changes include a healthy diet, regular exercise, weight management, and smoking cessation. Pharmacotherapy is recommended when lifestyle changes are insufficient. Statins are the first-line treatment, while other drugs like bile acid sequestrants, niacin, and fibrates may be used as adjuncts.
Healthcare professionals play a crucial role in managing dyslipidemia. They should educate patients about the importance of lifestyle modifications and adherence to medication. Regular monitoring of lipid levels is also necessary to assess the effectiveness of the treatment plan.
