Serum electrolyte levels can be influenced by factors such as hydration status, acid-base balance, and renal function. Additionally, recognizing patterns of multiple electrolyte imbalances can provide clues to the underlying pathology.
Management should be individualized, addressing the cause and severity of the imbalance. Mild imbalances may be corrected with dietary modifications, while severe imbalances may necessitate intravenous replacement. Concurrently, underlying causes must be treated. By adopting such a comprehensive strategy, clinicians can effectively diagnose, manage, and prevent electrolyte imbalances, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
