Traditional diagnostic methods, such as blood culture, have been complemented by newer techniques. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays, for instance, offer rapid, sensitive, and specific detection of the causative pathogens. Furthermore, serological tests like the Typhidot and Tubex TF tests have improved the speed and accuracy of diagnosis, although they should be interpreted with caution due to potential cross-reactivity.
The emergence of multi-drug resistant strains has necessitated the development of new treatment strategies. Fluoroquinolones, such as ciprofloxacin, have become the treatment of choice in many regions. Additionally, third-generation cephalosporins and azithromycin have shown efficacy in treating resistant strains. Early diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic therapy remain crucial in reducing complications and improving patient survival.
Vaccination is a promising strategy in the prevention of enteric fever. The Vi polysaccharide and conjugate vaccines have shown good protective efficacy and are recommended for high-risk populations and travelers to endemic areas. Ongoing research aims to improve vaccine coverage and efficacy.

Continued research and development in these areas, coupled with effective vaccination strategies, are essential in the ongoing battle against this disease.
