The management of peptic ulcer disease (PUD) has evolved significantly over the past few decades, thanks to advancements in diagnostic techniques, pharmacological treatments, and endoscopic interventions. Modern diagnostic tools, such as high-resolution endoscopy and Helicobacter pylori stool antigen testing, have increased the accuracy of PUD diagnosis. These techniques are non-invasive, cost-effective, and can provide results within hours, facilitating early intervention and improved patient outcomes.
The advent of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and H. pylori eradication therapy has revolutionized PUD management. PPIs suppress gastric acid secretion, promoting ulcer healing, while eradication therapy targets the underlying cause of PUD in many patients, significantly reducing recurrence rates.
