Antibiotic resistance is a global health concern, often attributed to inappropriate antibiotic use. Rational antibiotic use is crucial in mitigating this issue.
Rational antibiotic use involves prescribing the right antibiotic, at the correct dose and duration, for the appropriate indication. It requires a comprehensive understanding of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
Antibiotic stewardship programs (ASPs) play a pivotal role in promoting rational use. They involve multidisciplinary efforts to optimize antibiotic use, reducing resistance and improving patient outcomes.
For patient safety, healthcare professionals must advocate for rational antibiotic use. Through education and the implementation of ASPs, we can combat antibiotic resistance and ensure better patient outcomes.
