The increasing incidence of cancer and the use of potent chemotherapeutic agents have led to a significant rise in cancer-related kidney disease. Onco-nephrology, a relatively new subspecialty, has emerged to address the unique challenges faced by cancer patients with kidney dysfunction.
The Interplay Between Cancer and Kidney Disease
Cancer and kidney disease share a complex and bidirectional relationship. Cancer therapies, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies, can induce kidney injury, leading to acute kidney injury (AKI) or chronic kidney disease (CKD).
