Risk mitigation strategies in diabetic patients primarily focus on lifestyle modifications, pharmacotherapy, and regular monitoring. Lifestyle modifications include a healthy diet, regular physical activity, smoking cessation, and weight management. Pharmacotherapy involves the use of statins, antihypertensives, and glucose-lowering agents. Regular monitoring of cardiovascular risk factors is essential for early detection and intervention.
Emerging therapies, such as sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, have shown promise in reducing cardiovascular risk in diabetic patients. These agents not only improve glycemic control but also have beneficial effects on weight, blood pressure, and lipid profile.
