Immunotherapy works by enhancing the body's natural defenses to fight diseases. It does this by stimulating the immune system to work harder or smarter, or by providing it with artificial immune system components. Unlike traditional treatments that directly target diseases, immunotherapy empowers the patient's immune system to effectively combat the disease.
Immunotherapies are classified into several types: Monoclonal antibodies, immune checkpoint inhibitors, cancer vaccines, and non-specific immunotherapies. Each type has a unique mechanism of action, but all aim to boost the body's immune response against diseases.

Future advancements in genomics and personalized medicine may help overcome these hurdles, improving the efficacy and safety of immunotherapy.

As we continue to unravel its complexities and refine its application, it is imperative for physicians to stay abreast of these developments to provide the best possible care to their patients.
