Recent advancements in the field have revolutionized our approach towards this disease, offering promising therapeutic avenues and improved patient outcomes. The advent of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) has significantly altered the landscape of hepatitis C management. These drugs, which target specific steps in the hepatitis C virus lifecycle, have demonstrated cure rates exceeding 90%. The development of pangenotypic DAAs, effective against all genotypes of hepatitis C, has further simplified treatment protocols and expanded access to therapy.
While antiviral therapy can suppress hepatitis B virus replication, it does not provide a definitive cure.
