A comprehensive understanding of its diagnosis and management is crucial to optimize patient outcomes and reduce caregiver burden.
Dementia diagnosis is a multifaceted process, often requiring a combination of cognitive assessments, neuroimaging, and laboratory tests. The most common tool, the Mini-Mental State Examination, assesses areas such as memory, attention, and language. Neuroimaging, including MRI and PET scans, can reveal brain abnormalities, while blood tests rule out other causes of cognitive impairment.
Management strategies for dementia focus on slowing disease progression, managing symptoms, and improving quality of life. Pharmacological interventions such as cholinesterase inhibitors and NMDA receptor antagonists can mitigate cognitive symptoms. Non-pharmacological approaches, including cognitive stimulation therapy and physical activity, also play a crucial role.

As research progresses, novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies may offer new hope for patients and caregivers alike.
