As global populations age, the demand for effective preventive strategies to enhance longevity has intensified. Community healthcare providers are uniquely positioned to drive early detection and intervention, ultimately reducing morbidity and mortality associated with chronic diseases. Preventive longevity assessment leverages clinical guidelines and risk prediction models to stratify patients and guide targeted interventions. This article reviews current evidence and recommendations for comprehensive preventive longevity assessment in routine community practice, with a focus on clinical applicability and long-term health optimization.
The demographic shift toward an aging society has substantial implications for healthcare systems worldwide. Epidemiological data reveal that non-communicable diseases (NCDs) including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders constitute the leading causes of premature death and disability. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 71% of global deaths are attributable to NCDs, with a significant proportion deemed preventable through early risk identification and intervention. Community-based longevity assessments, therefore, are integral to mitigating the escalating burden of chronic disease.
The biological mechanisms underlying aging and longevity are multifactorial, involving genomic instability, epigenetic alterations, mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular senescence, and chronic low-grade inflammation. These processes interact with environmental, lifestyle, and metabolic factors to accelerate pathological aging and disease onset.
