Every winter, many families plan for the worst and make sure they're prepared with some basic medical supplies in case of an illness. One common drug to have on hand is Tamiflu, but knowing the appropriate dose can be hard. In this blog post, we'll explore what Tamiflu is and what the appropriate dose is. We'll also discuss how it works and how you can use it safely and properly with your patients
The appropriate Tamiflu dose for most people is 75 mg twice daily for 5 days. However, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different dose depending on your age, weight, and other factors.
For people who are 13 years and older and weigh 40 kg or more: The recommended Tamiflu dose is 75 mg twice daily for 5 days.
For children 2 weeks to 12 years old who weigh 15 kg or more: The recommended Tamiflu dose is 30 mg once daily for 5 days.
For children 2 weeks to 12 years old who weigh less than 15 kg: The recommended Tamiflu dose is 15 mg once daily for 5 days.
Some people may be at higher risk for serious side effects from Tamiflu and may need a lower dose or a different dosing schedule. These include people with kidney problems and people taking certain other medications.
Some of the possible side effects of Tamiflu include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and dizziness. More serious side effects may include allergic reactions, kidney problems, or seizures.
There are some people who should not take Tamiflu, including those with the following conditions:-Allergies to Tamiflu or any of its ingredients
-Kidney problems
-Pregnant women (Tamiflu may harm the fetus)
-Breastfeeding women (Tamiflu may pass into breast milk and harm the baby)
It takes about two days for Tamiflu to start working. However, it is still important to take the full course of the medication, even if you start feeling better after a couple of days. This is because Tamiflu only works to shorten the duration of the flu, it does not prevent you from getting it in the first place.
Taking the appropriate Tamiflu dose is an important step in helping protect against serious illnesses such as flu and pneumonia. Not only can it help reduce your risk of developing a severe illness, but it can also help shorten the length of time you may be ill if you do end up becoming infected. With the right knowledge about when to take Tamiflu and what dosage to take, medical professionals should have no problem keeping their patients safe this winter season.
