Clinicians play a pivotal role in identifying modifiable risk factors, implementing preventive strategies, and tailoring interventions to individual needs. Globally, the population aged 65 years and older is projected to double by 2050, reaching 1.5 billion. The prevalence of age-associated conditions such as frailty, sarcopenia, cognitive impairment, and multimorbidity increases with advancing age, directly impacting independence and healthcare utilization. Disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) attributable to chronic diseases, falls, and functional decline are significant contributors to healthcare costs and reduced quality of life. Epidemiological data underscore the urgent need for proactive interventions that delay or mitigate loss of independence.
Aging is characterized by progressive physiological changes, including decreased cellular repair, mitochondrial dysfunction, systemic inflammation ("inflammaging"), and neuroendocrine alterations.
