Endoscopy remains the gold standard for PUD diagnosis, but recent developments have enhanced its efficacy. High-definition endoscopy and narrow-band imaging facilitate improved visualization of mucosal patterns and vascular structures, aiding in more accurate diagnosis. Non-invasive tests for Helicobacter pylori, such as the urea breath test and stool antigen test, have also been refined for higher sensitivity and specificity.
Pharmacological management of PUD has evolved beyond proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and H. pylori eradication. Novel agents like potassium-competitive acid blockers show promise in providing more potent and prolonged acid suppression. In conclusion, advancements in PUD management span from refined diagnostic tools to innovative therapeutic strategies and surgical interventions. Precision medicine further holds the potential to revolutionize PUD care. It is crucial for healthcare professionals to stay abreast of these developments, integrating them into practice to enhance patient care and outcomes.
