Welcome to today's episode. In the intensive care unit, providing optimal nutrition support is crucial for patient recovery. Critically ill patients often have increased metabolic demands and may not be able to eat normally. Early nutrition support, usually within 24 to 48 hours of admission, can help reduce complications. Enteral nutrition, delivered through a feeding tube, is generally preferred over parenteral nutrition, which is given intravenously, because it supports gut function and reduces infection risk. The nutrition plan should be individualized based on the patient’s condition, energy needs, and tolerance. Regular monitoring and adjustment are essential to ensure the patient receives adequate calories and protein for healing. Proper nutrition support is a key part of ICU care and can improve outcomes.
