Illuminating Insights: Decoding the Clinical Impact of Vision Photochemistry

Speciality: Opthalmology

Speaker:

Dr. Neela Aundhakar | Professor in Physiology, BJMC

Description:

A warm welcome to all the medical professionals in this interesting session on understanding the clinical implications of the photochemistry of vision.

Dr. Nila, a professor of physiology, introduces herself and discusses the layers of the retina. She explains the role of each layer and how they contribute to vision. She also discusses the differences between rods and cones and the photochemical process involved in vision.

The photochemical process in vision involves the conversion of retinal pigments, such as rhodopsin, in response to light stimuli. Vitamin A is crucial for vision, as it is a component of retinal pigments and deficiency can lead to night blindness.

Vitamin A deficiency takes months to develop and affects vision in dim light conditions. The sodium-potassium pump plays a vital role in maintaining the resting membrane potential in the retina, allowing for the transmission of visual signals.

Therefore,  get an overall knowledge regarding the clinical implications of the photochemistry of vision. Listen to the webinar, grab the knowledge that is shared, and follow HiDoc for more such interesting webinar sessions.
