Acute fatigue is usually a normal response to physical and mental exertion, while chronic fatigue may indicate underlying medical problems.

Management of fatigue depends on the underlying cause. Lifestyle modifications, including balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep, form the basis of treatment. Cognitive-behavioral therapy can be beneficial for patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. Pharmacological treatment may be required for conditions such as hypothyroidism or anemia.
Decoding fatigue requires a systematic approach that includes a thorough history, physical examination, and appropriate investigations. Understanding the potential causes and management strategies can help healthcare professionals provide effective care for patients with this common, yet often complex, symptom.
