Pharmacotherapy is a cornerstone in smoking cessation, with several FDA-approved medications available. Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), Bupropion, and Varenicline have proven efficacy in aiding cessation by reducing withdrawal symptoms and cravings. However, healthcare professionals should consider patient-specific factors, such as contraindications and potential side effects, when prescribing these medications.
Behavioral interventions, often combined with pharmacotherapy, can significantly enhance cessation rates.
