Pharmacological interventions, such as bronchodilators, inhaled corticosteroids, and proton pump inhibitors, may be employed depending on the identified cause. Non-pharmacological approaches, including behavioral therapy and physiotherapy, may also be beneficial.
Given the heterogeneous nature of chronic cough, a personalized approach is essential. This involves understanding the patient's unique circumstances, including their medical history, lifestyle, and preferences. A multidisciplinary team involving pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, otolaryngologists, and allied health professionals can provide a comprehensive and coordinated care plan.
In conclusion, chronic cough is a complex condition that requires a comprehensive and personalized approach in clinical practice. By understanding the pathophysiology, conducting a thorough diagnosis, and employing effective management strategies, clinicians can improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
