Iron studies (serum iron, ferritin, total iron-binding capacity) and vitamin B12/folate levels are crucial in diagnosing microcytic and macrocytic anemias respectively. Low iron levels suggest iron deficiency anemia, while low B12/folate levels indicate megaloblastic anemia.
