NAFLD affects approximately 25% of the global population. The prevalence is increasing in parallel with the rise of metabolic syndrome, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. It is now the most common cause of chronic liver disease in western countries.

Proactive management of NAFLD involves lifestyle modifications, pharmacological interventions, and regular monitoring. Lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise, are first-line interventions. Pharmacological management is typically reserved for patients with NASH and fibrosis. Regular monitoring is essential to assess disease progression and the effectiveness of interventions.
Healthcare professionals play a crucial role in the early detection and management of NAFLD. Regular screening of high-risk populations, patient education, and implementation of lifestyle modifications are key responsibilities. Furthermore, they should be well-versed in the latest pharmacological treatments and their potential side effects.
Understanding NAFLD's prevalence, pathophysiology, and proactive management strategies is crucial in mitigating its impact on global health. As the disease's prevalence continues to rise, healthcare professionals must stay informed and proactive in managing this complex and multifaceted disease.
