The field of Hepatitis management has undergone substantial advancements in recent years, leading to improved patient outcomes. This article aims to provide a comprehensive update on these developments to aid healthcare professionals in their practice.
New antiviral therapies have revolutionized the treatment of Hepatitis C (HCV). Direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) have shown to achieve sustained virologic response (SVR) rates of over 90%, significantly reducing the risk of liver-related mortality. Additionally, these treatments have shorter durations and fewer side effects than previous regimens.
Advancements in Hepatitis B (HBV) vaccination have led to better prevention strategies. The introduction of the adjuvanted vaccine, Heplisav-B, has shown higher seroprotection rates and requires fewer doses than conventional vaccines, improving compliance and overall efficacy.
Non-invasive diagnostic tools for liver disease related to Hepatitis B and C have improved patient management. Techniques such as transient elastography (FibroScan) and serum biomarkers can accurately assess liver fibrosis, reducing the need for invasive liver biopsies.
