Ketorolac is a medication commonly prescribed by severe pain. It is part of a group of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Ketorolac works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. While it can be an effective way to relieve pain, it’s important to be aware of the possible side effects associated with ketorolac. In this blog post, we will discuss the benefits and side effects of taking a dose of ketorolac, as well as tips for safe use.
Ketorolac, also known as Toradol, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain. It is available in both oral and injectable forms. Ketorolac works by reducing the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals that play a role in pain and inflammation. Ketorolac is effective at relieving pain from various conditions, including arthritis, menstrual cramps, migraines, and dental procedures. It is also sometimes used to treat fever.
There are several benefits to taking ketorolac, including:
1. Relief from pain and inflammation: Ketorolac is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) that can help to relieve pain and inflammation.
2. Reduction in fever: Ketorolac can also help to reduce fever.
3. Prevention of blood clots: Ketorolac can help to prevent blood clots from forming, which can lead to serious medical conditions such as heart attacks and strokes
4. Improved healing: Ketorolac can help to improve the healing process by reducing inflammation and swelling.
The most common side effects of taking ketorolac are upset stomach, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness, headache, and dizziness. Less common but more serious side effects include bleeding in the brain, kidney damage, and low blood pressure.
If you are allergic to ketorolac or aspirin, you should not take this medication. If you have ever had a bad reaction to any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), you should not take ketorolac. This medication is also not recommended for people with certain medical conditions, such as:
-bleeding disorders
-stomach ulcers or intestinal bleeding
-kidney disease
-high blood pressure
-heart disease
Ketorolac is a medication that can be used to relieve pain and inflammation. It is available in both prescription and over-the-counter forms. When used as directed, Ketorolac is generally safe and effective. However, there are some potential side effects that you should be aware of. Here is what you need to know about taking a dose of Ketorolac safely:
The recommended dose of Ketorolac for adults is 10 mg every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain relief. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 40 mg. For children ages 2 to 16, the recommended dose is 0.5 mg/kg (up to 10 mg) every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain relief. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 5 mg/kg or 30 mg, whichever is less. If you have liver disease, you should avoid taking Ketorolac altogether.
The data show that ketorolac was prescribed above its ceiling dose of 10 mg in 97% of patients who received intravenous doses and in 96% of patients receiving intramuscular doses.
