Recent advancements in diagnostic technologies, including high-density EEG and advanced MRI techniques, have enhanced the precision of epilepsy diagnosis. High-density EEG provides a more detailed brain activity map, aiding in the accurate localization of seizure onset. Advanced MRI techniques, such as functional MRI and diffusion tensor imaging, have improved the detection of structural abnormalities causing epilepsy.
There have been significant developments in epilepsy treatment, with new antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and surgical techniques coming to the fore. Newer AEDs, such as perampanel and brivaracetam, have demonstrated improved efficacy and tolerability. Minimally invasive surgical techniques, including laser interstitial thermal therapy, are providing promising results with fewer complications.
