For patients who require insulin, advanced insulin therapies can provide better glycemic control. The use of rapid-acting insulin analogues and long-acting basal insulin analogues can mimic physiological insulin secretion more closely than traditional human insulin, leading to improved postprandial and fasting glucose levels.
Women with a history of GDM have a significantly increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. Therefore, postpartum follow-up is essential.
