The management of Hepatitis has witnessed significant advancements in recent years, leading to improved patient outcomes. This article aims to provide an overview of these recent developments.
Direct-Acting Antiviral Agents (DAAs) have revolutionized the treatment of Hepatitis C. These drugs act directly on the virus to prevent its replication, offering cure rates of over 90%. Recent advancements have seen the introduction of pangenotypic DAAs, capable of treating all genotypes of Hepatitis C.
Immunotherapy is emerging as a promising approach for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B. Recent trials have shown that using immune checkpoint inhibitors can reactivate the immune response against HBV, potentially leading to functional cure.
Non-invasive methods for assessing liver fibrosis, such as transient elastography and serum biomarkers, have gained popularity. These techniques offer a safer and more comfortable alternative to liver biopsy, and have shown high accuracy in detecting significant fibrosis and cirrhosis.
There have been significant strides in the management of Hepatitis D and E. For Hepatitis D, the advent of Bulevirtide, a first-in-class entry inhibitor, has shown promising results. For Hepatitis E, Ribavirin remains the treatment of choice, with recent studies highlighting its efficacy in chronic cases.

These developments promise to transform patient outcomes, moving us closer to the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat.
