Stroke symptoms often appear suddenly and primarily involve neurological deficits. The most common symptoms include unilateral weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, vision loss, balance and coordination problems, and severe headache. These symptoms can be easily remembered using the acronym FAST (Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulties, Time to call emergency services).
