Introduction

Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is a prevalent gastrointestinal disorder characterized by mucosal damage secondary to pepsin and gastric acid secretion.

Current Management Strategies

Current management involves acid suppression, eradication of Helicobacter pylori, and avoidance of NSAIDs. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) remain the cornerstone of treatment.

Future Directions

Emerging therapies, including novel PPIs, potassium-competitive acid blockers, and gastroprotective drugs, are promising. Personalized medicine based on genetic profiling also holds potential.

Conclusion

An integrated approach to PUD, encompassing current strategies and novel therapies, will optimize patient outcomes and reduce healthcare burden.
