As frontline healthcare providers, primary care practitioners play a crucial role in early detection of serious conditions.
Red flags are symptoms or signs that suggest a patient's condition may be serious. They may include unexplained weight loss, persistent pain, or changes in mental status.
When a red flag is identified, timely referral for further evaluation is essential. This may involve direct referral to a specialist, or arranging urgent diagnostic tests.
Recognizing and responding to red flags is critical in primary care. By maintaining a high index of suspicion and taking appropriate action, we can ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
