Complete blood count (CBC) forms the cornerstone of anemia diagnosis. Parameters such as hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, and red cell indices provide valuable insights into the type of anemia. For instance, a low mean corpuscular volume (MCV) indicates microcytic anemia, often due to iron deficiency or thalassemia.

In severe cases or refractory anemia, blood transfusion or bone marrow transplantation may be required.

By combining a thorough clinical assessment with appropriate laboratory and advanced investigations, healthcare professionals can identify the underlying cause and tailor the treatment accordingly.
