Once clinical suspicion is established, further investigations are warranted. Blood tests including complete blood count, serum electrolytes, liver and renal function tests, thyroid function tests, and Vitamin B12 levels can identify systemic conditions causing neuropathy. In cases of suspected hereditary neuropathies, genetic testing may be indicated.
Electrophysiological studies such as nerve conduction studies and electromyography are crucial in confirming the diagnosis, determining the extent and pattern of nerve involvement, and differentiating axonal from demyelinating neuropathies.
