Denosumab is another medication that works by blocking the action of a protein called RANKL, which is involved in the formation and breakdown of bone. By blocking this protein, denosumab helps to reduce the amount of calcium in the blood.
In addition to medication, there are other treatments available for hypercalcemia. Diet and lifestyle modifications can be helpful in managing the condition. It is important to limit the amount of calcium and vitamin D in the diet, as well as to reduce the amount of sodium and alcohol intake. Regular exercise and stress management can also help to reduce the symptoms of hypercalcemia. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to treat hypercalcemia. Parathyroidectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of the parathyroid glands, which are responsible for the overproduction of parathyroid hormone. This can help to reduce the amount of calcium in the blood and improve symptoms.
