Initial Assessment

The initial evaluation of thyroid nodules involves a thorough clinical history, physical examination, and assessment of risk factors for malignancy. Key elements include a history of radiation exposure, familial thyroid disease, and the patient's age, gender, and symptoms.

Diagnostic Imaging

High-resolution ultrasound serves as the primary imaging modality for thyroid nodules. It can provide valuable information regarding nodule size, composition, echogenicity, and the presence of suspicious features.

Cytological Evaluation

Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy remains the gold standard for cytological evaluation. The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology aids in the standardized interpretation of FNA results.

Molecular Testing
