The management of abdominal pain is tailored to the underlying cause. It may involve medical therapy, surgical intervention, or supportive care. Patient education and reassurance also play an important role, particularly in cases of functional abdominal pain.
Evaluating abdominal pain in clinical practice requires a comprehensive approach that includes a detailed history, physical examination, appropriate investigations, and judicious use of consultation and referral. By adopting this approach, clinicians can enhance their diagnostic accuracy, improve patient outcomes, and minimize unnecessary investigations and interventions.
