Hyperpituitarism refers to the excess secretion of pituitary hormones. The most common cause is a pituitary adenoma. Conditions like acromegaly and Cushing's disease result from hyperpituitarism and require prompt intervention to prevent long-term complications.
Pituitary apoplexy is a rare but life-threatening condition that results from hemorrhage or infarction of the pituitary gland. It presents with sudden headache, visual impairment, and pituitary insufficiency. Immediate diagnosis and treatment are critical to prevent permanent damage or death.
