They are responsible for prescribing antimicrobials judiciously, monitoring patient outcomes, and adjusting treatment plans based on individual patient needs and response to therapy. Additionally, they are instrumental in educating patients about the importance of appropriate antimicrobial use and adherence to prescribed regimens.
Antimicrobial stewardship programs are an indispensable tool in the fight against antimicrobial resistance. By promoting the judicious use of antimicrobials, they can significantly improve patient outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and help curb the growing threat of antibiotic-resistant infections.
