Patient-centered care (PCC) is a healthcare approach where the patient is an active participant in their care and treatment decisions. This model emphasizes a partnership between patients and healthcare providers, promoting shared decision-making and respect for individual patient preferences. PCC is a key element of quality healthcare and is associated with improved patient satisfaction, health outcomes, and cost-effectiveness.
Studies show that PCC can lead to better health outcomes, reduced healthcare costs, and increased patient satisfaction. By focusing on the patient’s whole experience, PCC can also improve communication, increase patient engagement, and reduce health disparities. Furthermore, PCC can foster a more effective and efficient healthcare system by reducing unnecessary interventions and hospital readmissions.
